The 2008 Cumberland County Fair will open with a special ribbon cutting by North Carolina Department of Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry and Cumberland County Commissioner Kenneth Edge on Thursday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Crown Expo Center, the Crown Center announced today.
In recognition of the Cumberland County Fair’s efforts to promote rider safety, Berry will present the Cumberland County Fair with a certificate and a flag for its participation as a fair partner in the Safety Amusement Star Program. The Cumberland County Fair is one of more than 20 fairs to receive this recognition for the 2008 fair season.
North Carolina is the only state in the nation that requires rides to be 100 percent to the manufacturer's specifications before the ride is approved.
The Cumberland County Fair, a traditional agricultural fair showcasing youth and 4-H livestock, runs September 18 through September 28. Tickets are $6 per person. Dozens of carnival rides line the midway while vendors offer cotton candy, snow cones, candy apples, and funnel cakes and much more. The Cumberland County Fair offers residents an opportunity to compete for prize money with their finest hand crafted, home made and home grown items for exhibition and judging.
The Cumberland County Fair seeks to provide an opportunity: to showcase and preserve the history and legacy of the agricultural communities in Cumberland County; to celebrate the diversity of the local arts and crafts; to promote a safe setting for fun, healthy family entertainment featuring music, motor sports, thrills and animals; and to encourage an environment of friendly competition for all ages.
