My 107 Seconds: Cynthia

WITH CYNTHIA’S MY 107 SECONDS, SEE IF YOU CAN SEE THE COMPARISON WE MIGHT FIND TO THE STORY IN THE BIBLE, OF WHEN JACOB FORGAVE HIS BROTHERS FOR SELLING HIM TO BE A SLAVE… REMEMBER? HE FORGAVE THEM BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH HIS BROTHERS HAD EVIL IN MIND WHEN THEY SOLD HIS BROTHER; JACOB REALIZED THAT GOD HAD GOOD IN MIND FOR HIM BY ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN… SO HE FORGAVE HIS BROTHERS AS A RESULT. TODAY’S STORY INVOLVES A CHILDHOOD THAT INCLUDED BEING BEATEN UP AND BULLIED AROUND, IT WASN’T TIL MANY YEARS LATER, WHEN, THROUGH ANOTHER DARK MOMENT IN THIS PERSON’S LIFE, THAT GOD, USING THE BAD MEMORIES FROM HER CHILDHOOD - LED HER TO SOMETHING MUCH BRIGHTER, NOT ONLY FOR HER, BUT PERHAPS MANY OTHERS AS WELL…GOD CAN, AND OFTEN DOES, USE THE BAD THINGS IN OUR LIVES; TO GLORIFY HIM – AND THIS CAN BRING ABOUT WONDERFUL THINGS FOR THE RECIPIENT.

THIS IS CYTHNTHIA’S, MY 107 SECONDS:

My family lives in Massachusetts on Cape Cod. At Christmas time almost 3 years ago, I was told that I needed to come home and see my Grandfather because he was doing very poorly. I flew up for the weekend between Christmas and New Years so that I could see him. My sister, brother, and I went together so we could be there for each other. He looked much worse than we had thought he would, and we were only able to stay for a short while.

All I could think on the way home was that I would never see my Grandfather, my Pahtnah, again. That whole weekend was like a foggy nightmare. Through much prayer and the help of friends, my Grandfather pulled through and is still with us today. While he was recovering in rehab, I started having very vivid dreams about my childhood… getting bullied; pretty much an every day occurrence for me all through high school. Many days I had to force myself to get up and go to school, and many times people would have me in tears.

The dreams were very vivid and the (a) story came to me literally in the middle of the night. The story idea, setting, even the character ideas were all handed to me in my dreams. One place in particular kept coming to mind – the mushroom house where my sister and I used to play so often as kids.

One night, after a particularly vivid dream, I lay awake and could not sleep. Something was telling me to write down what I was thinking and dreaming about. I felt so compelled to get it down, that the whole story was written before anyone else was awake. It turned out to be a story about friendship that I read the next day to my family. I didn’t think much of it, but my husband suggested that I try to get it published. Well, after much research and waiting, that is what I did. I sent it in. God led me in this, also, for no matter what search was put into google, the same publishing company came up every single time. They were the only company that I sent it to.

We Can Be Friends, book one in the Mushroom House Adventure series, was released last November. The lesson of the book is to get to know someone and look past differences before you decide whether or not to become friends. In other words, don’t judge a book by its cover!

Since I am a math person and had never written anything (or even thought of doing such) I believe that this is what I am supposed to be doing and that God had to give my memory, a not-so gentle push to get me going. I am so glad that He did. I truly feel that my Grandfather getting so ill was the only way that I would have written this book. If this book helps one kid to either not become a bully or not be bullied, then it will all be worth it for me.

GOD CAN, AND WILL USE THE BAD THINGS IN OUR LIVES FOR THE BENEFIT OF US, OTHERS, AND TO GLORIFY HIS NAME… WE THANK CYNTHIA, FOR SHARING HER STORY WITH US, AND WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN US AGAIN NEXT FRIDAY, AND EVERY FRIDAY, WHEN WE SHARE ANOTHER INSPIRING, MY 107 SECONDS.
